Can Nigeria Ever Be Corruption Free?

First he verbally assaulted the National Assembly for excessive and insensitive spending at a time in which 99% of the nation is in financial turmoil. Then he had a go at the nation's governors for parading themselves like demi-gods - blinded by the inevitable arrogance and pride that circles political power in Africa.

My former Mr. President, you were spot-on on both accounts. But in truth I'm a little suspicious of your statements. After-all wasn't the legislature even more insensitive to the plight of the prols during your government's tenure???
And isn't it your 1999 constitution that continues to enable the nation's governors to do whatever they want in the knowledge that so long as they stay in Nigeria absolutely nothing will happen to them??? Indeed if we want transparent, fair, and proper prosecution we're better served to somehow lure the guilty assailants to the UK or the US! Just ask James Ibori. Then ask Daizani in about 13 months.

I have absolutely no doubts about OBJ's passion and care for Nigeria. Indeed no matter what anyone says about Nigeria's former president, his love and desire for Nigeria's progress can never be questioned.

But my question is Why Now? Is what OBJ is seeing now any different or worse than what went on in previous administrations - including his own? Maybe I'm being a little paranoid but I sense an agenda more hidden than when the kids playing hide and seek in a laborynth hid themselves so effectively that they couldn't find their way out - ever!!!

Unfortunately, rather like supporting Arsenal, I can no longer afford to get too excited about positive end results in Nigeria. Getting excited by the seemingly unfolding possibilities of a transparent and corrupt free Nigeria, only to be let down over and over again is too much of a danger to one's health. When one considers the alarming number of vested interests within both the legislature and executive the reality of the real situation on ground begins to seep through.

Yes, PMB is trying his best to uphold his promise to sanitise Nigeria. But can he do it all on his own? I don't think so; which then begs the question - 'who is going to sincerely help him?' In other words are there any clean hands in the executive and legislature?

What has become blatantly obvious during the past few months is that contrary to popular opinion, and despite his many flaws, Jonathan is not only Not a bad man, but not even a quarter as corrupt as we thought he was. He was simply a weak president surrounded by ravenous Kleptomaniacs. To make matters worse the women in his life were the worst culprits - Daizani, Iweala, and Mrs. Jonathan.

And there lies the problem.

Is it possible to probe Daizani without probing the former first lady? Furthermore what about the first lady before her - Mrs. Yaradua!?! Let's not forget the shananigans she got up to.

Any which way one looks at it the corruption in Nigeria runs so deep and so far (executive, legislature, military, civil service, police force, even newspaper publishers!!) that it's hard to see how it can ever be cleansed. Aside from the President and the VP, can anyone in either the executive or legislature lay claim to be clean??

Can PMB really set us free from the shackles of corruption?

Or is this just another typical Arsenal situation? Ruthlessly lead us astray before shamelessly revealing that nothing has changed - 4th place was always the objective.

When I consider how far and how wide the poison has spread I realise there's one prayer we should all remember to do on a daily basis; and it is a prayer for the good health and protection of our nation's president.
