He Always Wants What's Best For You

"Lot looked up and saw that the whole plain of the Jordan was well watered, like the garden of the Lord, like the land of Egypt, toward Zoar. So Lot chose for himself the whole plain of the Jordan..."

Genesis 13 vs 10-11

Grace (Jesus) is an abundance of Mercy and Love.

There are times we think He is not with us, or not answering our prayers. But the fact of the matter is that very often it is because of His Grace, Mercy, and Love that God doesn't answer some of our prayers. For our eyes and desires can often be so terribly off the mark.

Lot's eyes were enticed by the well watered plain of the Jordan, so he chose what his eyes desired. But unfortunately it led to him settling down in Sodom and Gomora;  and we all know what eventually happened there.

A few years ago, my business partner and I, in search of riches, submitted our proposal to be one of the vocational training partners for the amnesty programme. Connected to several top people in government we were sure we would get the deal. We travelled back and forth for at least ten months, meeting various influential people in the previous government. We prayed, we fasted, we prayed, we fasted, we prayed, we prayed, we fasted. But no matter how close we got it never quite happened.

Then one morning I woke up in the most foul of moods, and being rather upset with God, I proceeded to have a good old fashioned moan at my father in heaven. But within a few minutes the Holy Spirit told me to forget about the transaction; that he would not give it to us because he wanted our hands to be clean. I was a little disappointed at first, but also rather relieved. It felt as though a huge burden had been lifted off me. I informed my business partner, who grudgingly agreed with me to let the whole thing ago.

Later that day I received a call from our contact within the government who wanted to tell us our next steps. But I politely interrupted him mid sentence to inform him that we were no longer interested in the transaction.

Today, as we witness the various probes of the previous government's transactions, words cannot describe how relieved I am that our proposal did not sail through.

Very often, what we want and desire is not what is in our best interest. Our father in heaven, being Omniscient, knows this only too well; and because of His abounding Love and Mercy chooses not to answer those particular prayers.

Grace manifests in many different ways.

So if a particular prayer or desire hasn't been granted, it's not because you haven't earned enough 'righteous' points to obtain it. Jesus has already earned all your 'righteous' points for you. It's simply because what your eyes want, and what you desire, is not what's best for you.

Be rest assured that He loves you and always wants the very best for you.
