Sales: Phone Etiquette
For those of you in the Financial Markets there are two very important factors to consider when calling prospects for the first time.
1. You have about three to five seconds to make a good impression.
And
2. Most of the high net-worth people you're calling are quite snobby.
Here are two Dos' and Don'ts to help you make a good impression.
1. Never start with 'Am I onto' or 'May I be on to'. Again, bear in mind that most people you're speaking with are snobby. To them this is poor English, and once they hear it their impression of you will diminish faster than you can possibly imagine.
Start with - 'Good morning, can I speak with....' or 'Good morning, is this....'
2. Never ever say 'we are into...'.
Saying you're 'into something' is not only poor English but also suggests that you're doing something as a hobby.
Rather, tell them 'we provide such and such services'.
Sales is very Psychological.
You have about three to five seconds to make a positive impression when calling a prospect for the first time. Don't ruin your chances with clumsy statements.
