Networking At Events

Networking At Events Is An Art; and yes, there are some Dos' and Don'ts.

But before giving you a couple of important Dos' and Don'ts let's address two important Foundational Components.

1. Remember what you learned last week about Dressing In Line With Your Brand and finding a way to stand out from the rest? This is especially important at Networking Events.

Think about it this way - imagine that the person you really wanted to connect with collected about twenty or so business cards, including yours. When he or she sifts through the business cards the next day why should she remember yours??

The more you stand out the better the chance of being remembered.

2. Elevator Pitch - an Elevator Pitch is a Powerful and Impactful sentence that says Who You Are, What You Do,  and How You Add Value.
Remember - everybody has very little time these days; so get to the point quickly. If you don't have an Elevator Pitch work on one asap.

Dos'

1. Be Confident In Who You Are and How You Can Add Value

2. Listen more than you talk. Your aim is to find out how you can Add Value and who you can Build Relationships with. You can't do this by blabbing on and on. You do it by Listening.

Don'ts

1. Don't spend all evening talking to the same person or group of people. Your aim is to make as many Value Adding Contacts as possible.

2. Don't scan the room as someone is talking to you. Not only is this rude but it makes you look positively shallow. The world is a small place these days. You never know where you might meet again or who he or she knows. No matter how irrelevant the person you're listening / talking to may seem, show respect and pay full attention for those few minutes that you converse.
