Heirs To God's Promise

"The promises were spoken to Abraham and to his seed. Scripture does not say, 'and to seeds' meaning many people, but 'and to your seed', meaning one person, who is Christ."

Galatians 3 vs 16

"If you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise."

Galatians 3 vs 29

The question is 'how do we belong to Christ?'

Is it by obeying the law?

Whilst getting ready for work a few mornings ago the following question popped into my head;

'what exactly is the bible referring to when it talks about the law?'

So I decided to Google 'What does the bible mean by observing the law' a few hours later. Thank God for Google! Lol

Below are a few lines from my findings.

"When "the law" is mentioned in the Bible, it harks back to the days of the Old Testament. There are hundreds of commands given to the Israelites, but the phrase "the law" refers specifically to the compilation of decrees found in the first five books of the Bible. This whole body of law was given the name Torah.
Obedience to this law was the awesome obligation of God's people as they attempted to merit His favor and blessing.
In the Bible God is portrayed as so holy and just, that sin cannot be brushed aside. Actually the Bible presents sin as so horrendous that it merits death."

Call me lazy, naive, or spoilt, but I say "No Thanks. Not for me."

I doubt I'd have got very far in those days.
Sacrificing a lamb or goat every couple of minutes would most likely have been my lot.

Thankfully Jesus made our lives a whole lot easier.

For we belong to Christ by believing that He died for ALL our sins - of Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow; and that He rose again on the third day in Total Victory - and thereby giving us Total (not partial) Victory because we are In Christ.

It's interesting to note that God made this promise to Abraham 430 years before the ten commandments were issued. In other words it was a promise based on what was to come - Grace.

Abraham didn't have to earn this promise.

He just had to believe.

In the same way you and I do not have to earn this promise.

By believing who Jesus is, and who we are in Him, we are Natural Heirs of God's Promise.
